Social economic & Well-being Opportunities

Through our Social economic & Well-being Opportunities program, we seek to build the economic resilience and livelihood security of imprisoned and formerly imprisoned women.

The Problem

Post-imprisonment, these women lack access to equal economic opportunities due to stigma and employment requirements such as Certificates of Good Conduct and declarations of whether or not one has ever been convicted of and imprisoned for a criminal offence.

This means that formerly imprisoned women cannot seek gainful employment. Those who wish to get into business lack sufficient training and access to financial services with which to set up and grow their businesses.

Our Mandate

To build the economic resilience and livelihood security of formerly imprisoned women and to improve the household income for formerly imprisoned women through skill development and access to means of earning a livelihood.

The Solution

Clean Start Kenya

Business & Skills Training

We link the women to short business training opportunities where they take part in various business and skills training opportunities, helping them upskill and be more intentional in running their businesses.

Business Hubs

These are common workspaces set up to support several women within the same location who had no designated businesses and business locations, where they converge, exhibit, sell and collectively carry out business activities to improve their financial income.

Self Help Groups

Women hailing from the same locality are put in small groups known as Chapters. Each chapter then registers a self-help group through which they can access financing for their businesses, carry out table banking, and they receive recognition from local authorities.

I want to thank Clean Start for giving me the opportunity to train at Buildher. I have learnt a lot of skills that I would not have gotten otherwise ~ Emma Atieno

Help us have an even bigger impact on the women, girls and children.
