The men and women of the deacon board are an integral part of the church organization.<\/p>\n<p>Each deacon\u2019s mission is to make ourselves available to help with various church matters; which include, but not limited to, involvement with funerals, Youth Group ventures, church outings and church security. The theme for the 2021-22 Campaign is: \"Fulfilling God's Purpose\".<\/p>\n<p>The church congregation focused, over a period of four weeks, on the various ways that we can serve God by working in his purpose for our lives. Each week we discussed a certain topic, which included, the responsibility of tithing, being a witness for Jesus, the story of\u00a0 \u2018The Good Samaritan\u201d, and giving joyfully and generously. Each of these testimonies were welcomed by the congregation and consequently, the pledges for 2021 were 50% greater than any pre-pandemic year. What is meant by this is that the name chosen would have to satisfy two goals: describe the intentions of youth ministry at Lincoln Memorial; and describe ministry as a whole. In order to achieve this a combination of two words was needed \u2013 wheel and scape.<\/p>\n<p>A wheel is \u201cany machine, apparatus, instrument, etc., shaped like this or having a circular frame, disk, or revolving drum as an essential feature\u201d(Dictionary.com). However, within a biblical context, in this case, wheel refers to a potter\u2019s wheel on which clay is formed and shapened. There are many references in the Bible to the potter\u2019s wheel and\/or clay (Isaiah 29:16; 64:8; Jer. 18:1-6; Jb 33: 6; etc.). Christians are being molded into the image of Christ, transformed (2 Co. 4:2 and Rom. 8:29). The second part of the word, scape, is taken from landscape. In contrast, however, where landscape is \u201ca section or expanse of rural scenery that can be seen from a single viewpoint\u201d (Dictionary.com) \u2013 a place; scape in WHEELscape is a place where something is formed. For our purposes, that something is someone, more specifically youth. Therefore, WHEELscape is a place where youth are formed on the potter\u2019s wheel. Gailen Reevers to its pastorate. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Rev. Reevers has taken Lincoln to new heights. It has provided free meals for school children during The Depression, provided leadership and facilities for YMCA and YWCA in the 1940\u2019s and 50\u2019s. Miller has been an active member of Lincoln Memorial Congregational United Church of Christ since November of 2008 and has been the church\u2019s senior servant since 2019.\u00a0 He was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.\u00a0 While living in Atlanta, Georgia, he worked for a national health insurance company in various capacities including sales.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was during this time that he accepted God\u2019s call to ministry, served local churches and completed the Master of Divinity at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC).\u00a0 In addition to serving Lincoln, he has worked in the non-profit sector for over a decade, advocating for individuals living with and at high risk of HIV; and amplifying the voices of local faith communities through organizing.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"et_pb_row_16 et_pb_row et_block_row\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column_29 et_pb_column et_pb_column_1_2 et_block_column et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_toggle_16 et_pb_toggle et_pb_toggle_item et_pb_toggle_close et_pb_module et_block_module preset--group--divi-toggle--divi-border--ax8amt1pf1\"><h5 class=\"et_pb_toggle_title\">Rev. Reevers was born in Detroit, Michigan and received his elementary and secondary education in its public schools.\u00a0 He was a graduate of Wayne State University, having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology; California State University Dominguez Hills, with a Master of Science in Administration; and Fuller Theological Seminary, with a Master of Arts in Theology.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He began his ministerial journey at Paradise Baptist where he served in many capacities from 1977-1984.\u00a0 In 1983, he was ordained into the United Church of Christ (UCC) and accepted the call to pastor Pilgrim Congregational UCC in 1984 where he served for ten years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1995, Reverend Reevers answered God\u2019s call to pastor Lincoln Memorial Congregational UCC and it was by his dedication to God, being led by the Holy Spirit and love for Jesus Christ, that Lincoln began to flourish. This began with his insistence that all members become active participants in the work of the church. \u201cEvery Member is a Minister\u201d was his mantra and this philosophy continues to be embraced by the church.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the completion of the Family Life Center building in 1999, the church established the Lincoln Family Life Center, Inc. as a separate community development corporation, which continued its legacy of service, offering educational programs for youth; parental support workshops; political engagement symposiums;\u00a0 and became home to charter schools committed to educating students from our immediate community.\u00a0 This accomplishment was the manifestation of Rev. Reevers\u2019 dream to impact our community and its people in the greatest ways possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2017, in honor of the God-glorifying service and commitment of Rev. Gailen and Mrs. Cathy Reevers, the Lincoln Family Life Center was renamed, and the building rededicated The Gailen and Cathy Reevers Center for Community Empowerment (GCRC).\u00a0 After 23 years of service, Rev. Reevers retired on September 30, 2018.\u00a0 He was called from labor to rest on May 8, 2021.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also led the church in building the Lincoln Family Life Center and establishing The Lincoln Family Life Center, a 501C3 nonprofit organization that has organized and implemented various community outreach programs such as Youth Mentoring Advocacy Project (YMAP), health programs including Fit 4 Life, arts programs for youth and education programs for all ages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rev. class=\"et_pb_team_member_description_content\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rev.
